Meet the first Survivor South Africa contestant Lee-Anne | SurvivorSA

21 conniving castaways to create fireworks on M-Net’s Survivor SA: Island of Secrets and one of them happens to be Mrs Cape Town 2018!

Survivor South Africa will roll into the channel’s popular Thursday night local productions slot at 19:00. Set in the beautiful Samoa, and spiced with all kinds of never-seen-before curveballs, twists and turns, Survivor SA: Island of Secrets will hit our screens on Thursday, 16 May.

While M-Net and production company Afrokaans remain tight-lipped about what exactly this mysterious Island of Secrets will reveal, they have lifted the lid a little on the castaways. This season, a diverse group of 21 strong-willed individuals who believe they know the ins and outs of the greatest game on earth will be facing the harsh elements of Mother Nature – and even harsher mind games of their tenacious opponents, who all want to be the Ultimate Survivor.

Soon, South Africa will get an unusual first glimpse of these contenders. Eight of the castaways from Survivor SA: Island of Secrets will feature on a variety of advertising billboards that will start appearing throughout the country on Wednesday, 17 April.

One of the faces South Africans will see on a billboard belongs to a beautiful blonde mother of two, Lee-Anne van Reenen, who interrupted her duties as reigning Mrs Cape Town 2018 to prove that her grit and resilience match her looks.

Lee-Anne is bent on tearing up those stereotypical beauty queen labels. She’s married to the bassist of the band Taxi Violence, holds an honours degree in Psychology, obtained five distinctions in matric, captained the KZN action netball team, counsels drug addicts and traumatised teens, and has survived several personal tragedies, including a cancer scare and double miscarriage. At first glance she may come across as sweet and kind-hearted – and she is – but there’s a whole lot more to her. She has a spirit of steel. A mere month after the trauma of losing her twins, she completed the 947 cycle race.

As Lee-Anne pours her heart into NGOs making a difference in informal settlements like Zwellenemba in Worcester, she says she entered Survivor SA not only to win, “but also to step into the shoes of those who have absolutely nothing; no bed, no food, no warmth, no shelter”. While she revels in deconstructing stigmas and stereotypes, she will happily act them out to deceive the other castaways. “My strategy is to kill them with kindness,” she smiles.

Lani Lombard, M-Net’s Head of Publicity, said of the show:  “We handpicked fascinating, multi-faceted personalities from a variety of professions and age groups who are not all they seem to be on the surface. It’s going to be a social experiment of note to observe how they manoeuvre through the conflicts that are bound to arise.”

Survivor SA: Island of Secrets will hit our screens on Thursday, 16 May

Survivor South Africa reportedly heading to Samoa

The seventh season of Survivor South Africa: Island of Secrets is reportedly about to start filming in Samoa during January and February, with an expected airdate sometime in May. Most recently Samoa has been the home of Australian Survivor from 2016 to 2017 and previous incarnations of American Survivor (seasons 19, 20, 23 and 24).

An article from the website Newsline Samoa reported in September a production crew from the series were scouting locations.

A quote from the article suggests “There is no set program at the moment, but the team is in Samoa scouting for any locations suitable for the TV series to be filmed.” Faanaea Natu, a culture advisor of the Samoa Tourism Authority confirmed in a statement when contacted by Newsline Samoa.

The dates of the article match these instagram posts by Survivor South Africa’s Executive Producer Leroux Botha who shared these snaps of his efforts scouting Samoa for locations.

//www.instagram.com/embed.js

The location of the current filming is unconfirmed, but speaking with production who have shot in Samoa previously, locations are limited and it is likely there will be overlap between the locations where American and Australian Survivor have filmed in the past. More details can be found about Samoan filming locations in this Reddit thread.

Survivor South Africa is coming off an impress re-birth in 2018 in the Phillipines where the show modified to a more traditional game length and producing style. The buzz of the International Survivor community, the seventh season will have large shoes to fill to match the excitement and entertainment provided by last years cast.

Previous versions of Survivor South Africa have filmed in Panama, Malaysia, Santa Carolina (Mozambique), the Maldives, the South China Sea and the Phillipines.

What do you think about Survivor SA heading to Samoa? DOes this mean Russell continues his world tour? 😉 Leave a comment on our FACEBOOK, TWITTER or comment box below.

10 All Access drops with all 36 seasons of Survivor!

PRAISE OUR AMERICAN OVERLORDS!

Our lives are about to get a lot more PROBST.

CBS and Network 10 have released their video on-demand service this morning with 75 shows and more than 7,000 commercial-free episodes to watch.

More importantly for readers of our website that includes all 36 seasons of US Survivor from the very beginning Borneo in 2000 all the way up to the most recent season Ghost Island.

Also the infamous 4th season of the series Survivor: Marquesas which until today had never aired in Australia legally. You know the season a lot of Aussies have never seen with that Rob guy from Boston! Unfortunately we were all subjected to that Voldemort season of Australian Survivor  filmed in South Australia instead.

Interestingly CBS have many of their better performing shows currently under contract with other networks and streaming services in Australia, including the CBS owned Showtime airing it’s programs on 9 owned Stan (Billions, Twin Peaks, All American) and The CW on Netflix (Riverdale, Arrow, The 100).

The 10 All Access launch titles are underwhelming for a $9.99 a month (first month free). Unless you really want to binge watch some Survivor over the Christmas holidays your best bet would be to hold off until CBS can include greater content on their service.
